Worship
Gathering together for community worship is the focal point of the week in most congregations. We come for music, musings, and mingling. In worship we find inspiration to help us through the week. Worship helps us make meaning in our lives and make sense of the lives we have. We worship in the company of others because the religious journey is
best when shared. Worship should soothe us and challenge us as well. The theologian Karl Barth said ministers should “preach with the Bible in one hand and the Newspaper in the other.” While I don’t always use the Bible, I believe good worship incorporates what is going on in the world at large, because we are part of the world not apart from it. Worship should be joyful, it should be thought provoking, it should recognize our heartbreaks. Worship should touch the soul, the heart, and the mind. |
